Old Business:
Minutes from previous meeting approved.

501 C - David Law Smith is working on getting everything in order.

T-shirts - Shawn brought shirts. Chris, Todd & Margie are eligible for free shirts. REH, Big Bikes, Screaming Toad have shirts for members who received letters.

Mountain Bike Ambassadors - Bob went through the IMBA online training manual, which has a list of recommendations. Suggestions are being there to educate, assist and give out brochures. Recruiting can take place through the membership. Minimal training is necessary to assure all carry the same stuff, have the same info. Launch date and packet will be discussed at the next meeting.
Tim has talked to rangers at BLM, they have info to share with the patrol and how to interract if there is a conflict. Maybe a clinic for soft riding techniques. We need a formal way to legitimize it for various agencies.
A proactive program was suggested, perhaps a booth at Camel Back on busy weekends to educate entire public. Outreach to public idea, perhaps even promoting soft riding issues at bike shops, putting brochures in YMCA and running stores. Education of trail users in responsible trail use. A holistic approach is ambassador for open space, foothills, hiking, jogging.

Tour de Fat - The New Belgium Brewing Company event to benefit SWIMBA will be held 8/17/02. They pay for the whole event. 1,000-1,500 people are expected. Andy Leathers is Fat Tire rep. There will be 8:30 a.m. group meetings, early morning rides at different levels, 3 bands, kegs will be cracked around noon, ends at 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. Beer proceeds go to SWIMBA, could be in $5,000-$10,000 range. $5 entry fee. Todd is working with the Parks Department on a location, has to go through application process. Camel Back is optimal, 2nd choice is Julia Davis. Fort Boise, Sandy Point, Quarry View, Bogus Basin, Municipal were suggested. The bands will need power. Food vendors mentioned are Parrilla Grill, Smoky Mountain Pizza.
Secondary benefactors for monies from sale of shirts and hats and 3rd tier benefactor for monies from games are needed. Trust for Public Lands, ICL, Nature Conservancy, YMCA suggested. They would have to host a booth and sell products.
Ride leaders and volunteers are needed. Could be considered SWIMBA’s coming out party.

Membership List - Harley is trying to get it on web site.

New Business:

Marketing Campaign - Need something before August. Margie will chair committee, with Chris Guill, Bill Peck and Todd Olsen. Need simple membership fee schedule.

Trail discussion - Tim Breuer discussed challenges with unapproved trail construction, teeter totters being constructed, etc. He has talked to the Forest Service about their logging projects and incorporating recreational perspective into it. The Forest Service plans to cut trees on Mores Mountain and wrap back to Stack Rock. In the hole there are miles of old logging road bed, Dan Meeker and Dave Beck have a feel for what is in there. There are pseudo trail projects up there with the potential for a black eye for mountain bikers. Wants to look at ways to soften the blow to aesthetics and incorporate trails into it. It is hoped that Dan Meeker and Dave Beck can meet with the Forest Service on SWIMBA’s behalf so SWIMBA can be involved.
Part of it could be how to complete a loop around More’s Mountain, which is fairly level, but rolling. SWIMBA needs to decide it’s role with logging, opening old road or new roads. It is a high visibility area on the Boise Front. The last time there was logging it was fire damaged timber and coming out by truck. This would probably go to Horseshoe Bend, but it proposed for Bogus Basin road. Dave and Dan want to be go betweens for SWIMBA and Forest Service at the scoping meeting and report back to SWIMBA. To do so, they need to be members.
Tim doesn’t know where the Forest Service is with OHV use.
Lori Fink, Boise National Forest Recreational Planner has convinced the Forest Service there is use besides cutting trees. Tim thinks routes could be designated as a result for us to go in and make trails. There are trails there now informally called "Meeker Trails".
Seaman’s Gulch - The Veterans have been given property in the area for a cemetery. It appears they want 40 acres piece that we want for a preserve and the school district wants for a school. The Veterans don’t want it developed, see open space and trails as a good fit. Tim will get a firmer position from the commissioners.

Terry Heslin - BLM

Terry has the Off Highway Vehicle planner position in Boise. He thinks the BLM is getting into the trail business, that’s why he is here. The coordinator position originated as a result of the summer of 2000 attempt to add motorized vehicles to some trails, and the resistance to it. There has been talk of free riding, teeter totters, maybe it should be brought to the table to see what they need.
On the heels of the OHV strategy will be the mountain bike strategy.

Miscellaneous -
Todd mentioned the American Motorcycle Association article on Idaho and Bike Magazine’s article on McCall.
Harley stated that a mountain biker has been appointed to the Blue Ribbon Association.
The bi annual IMBA trail conference in Moab is in April. Harley is the state representative for IMBA.
Meeting adjourned.
