Old Business:
Shafer Butte - Leo believes we need to locate, GPS and walk old roads, determine what we want and don’t want, make loops and links. Leo and Jeff volunteer two days. There is 2000' elevation and some of it is bushy. The logging seems to be at the 5000-5200' level. The Forest Service is allowing a lot for recreation. We also need to look for unique things, such as large rocks, big pines, etc. to work into the system. An idea was mentioned to get a helipad on Bogus Basin road and convert it to a trailhead.
Tour de Fat - Camel Back isn’t available. The Pen was mentioned, Todd Advocates Julia Davis Park. Todd will be presenting his case at the library auditorium at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The 4th tier will be bike valet parking by Boise Blues Society.
Spring Fling - Earth Day - Todd will have a booth with SWIMBA’s banner Saturday from 10 or 11 to 8 in the evening, will need SWIMBA volunteers.
Banner - It is 2 colors, 4x6, $134.33.
Ridge to Rivers - 5/4/02 is Tending Foothills Day.
8th Street Paving - Bob advised there is a hearing on the 24th at 6:30 p.m. and asked for volunteers to hand out brochures at Robie Creek.
Residential Developments - As they are coming forward, as they relate to trails, SWIMBA will be involved.
New Business:
BMX Track - Tim Fisher, President of Caldwell BMX Racing advised they are trying to get a BMX track in Boise. They have talked to Parks & Recreation, have a photo and map. They also have talked to bike shops. They want to set up a flat zone for the kids, they can fine tune it in 3 weeks. Willow Lane is the first choice, the second is the pit on Reserve Street where the old BMX park was located. The plan is for freestyle only. They aren’t worried about Fort Boise flood plain issues, they would rebuild if necessary. BMX groups would have to do maintenance, the Caldwell group would advise what needed to be done. They have some adult riders and have a mountain bike class. They are thinking of a race track around the exterior with grooming on the interior. Caldwell BMX would maintain, police and clean it up.
Leo voiced his support, saying it needs proper design. Tim believes the kids are finding place to BMX, that some places have gone away. Tim Breuer stated the agencies are behind this concept.
Tim wants the City to supply volunteer coordinator, and would want SWIMBA volunteers. They will provide reciprocal support to SWIMBA.
Todd believes we should determine our scope - are we mountain bikers or extending ourselves to support all cycling forms including commuters.
SWIMBA agreed to provide moral support to the plan.
Volunteer Yahoo Group - Chris Cook will set up a Yahoo group. Todd suggests a short questionnaire to identify interests such as how people feel about losing trails, how many times a week they ride.
Idaho City Yurts - Leo advised there is funding for 2 new yurts and 2 new single track trails to be built this summer with machines, and will require touch up.
Bob’s Trail - Tim advised Ridge to Rivers is working on bottom end of Bob’s Trail
Seamon’s Gulch Trails - Trail building options are in the works, there will be a public workshop.
