Harley Parson called the meeting to order. Nine board members present represented a quorum. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Officers will be elected at the next meeting. Old Business: Ambassador Patrol - Chris Cook has been working with Tim Breuer and the agencies and plans to have a group training ride in about a week. He has looked at racing plates for identification, a minimum order of $100, which would have 3 rows of text and a logo, he was thinking of red with black. Ordering time is 2 ½-3 weeks turnaround. The second option is $144 for a laminated solid yellow plate, with a week turnaround. Harley suggested a mockup which we would duplicate and laminate. Chris has considered a log for patrollers to log in with a number, which would be re-issued. The current plan is for an informal patrol at first, then training in CPR and Wilderness First Aid. He talked with ICL about involvement as a hiker/ambassador as well. The $35 fee to IMBA has been paid. Tour de Fat - Todd Olson reported the alcohol permit is in order through the Blues Bouquet and Parks and Rec has given their approval. The park won't be in use for the Anne Frank Memorial. A vintage bike show, not sale or swap, was discussed, with David Camp in charge. Ala Gilso is also a collector. Dave Thomas will contact them. Andy will have the Fat Tire cruiser bikes available around town, advertising they can be won at Tour de Fat. New Belgium will bring a 1963 Airstream trailer, known as the Beerstream Trailer and will have brewery people here from Seattle and Colorado. Todd indicated we need ride leaders, 2 per ride for 10 rides. Also need ride descriptions for mountain, road and cruiser rides. Barber or Willow Park are suggested for cruisers. Leaders signed up tonight are Chris Hahn, Dave Thomas, Eric Breen, Darrell King, Harley Parson (Hard Guy to Dry Creek), Bob Roehl (cruiser or 3 Bears-2 miles past Shane's), Jerry West (sweep), Jeff Skillern, Leo Hennessey, Todd Olson (Tour de Bogus). Also possibly Dave from Bikes and Boards. Red tail Ridge was suggested for beginners and Bonneville Point and Table Rock loops for intermediates. Margie will be responsible for finding ride leaders. David Kemp wants trail maps on the New Belgium web site. Andy will do account promos and get web site stuff and poster stuff through Steve Steubner. Dave Thomas reported tables, chairs and canopies will be delivered Friday night and taken down Sunday. Tables/tents will be needed for Blues Bouquet, ICL, NENA, maybe New Belgium. 10 x 10s will be located between the band shell and beer area. Volunteers in yellow T-shirts will be needed for the main SWIMBA table to see memberships and T-shirts. Martha Hahn will be there for Sprockids and Chris Cook for Ambassadors. A volunteer is needed to coordinate volunteers for the SWIMBA booths. Todd and Margie will be on site as well. Board Members: Bob mentioned Doraine Raichart is probably not interested in a second term on the board. New Business: New trails in the Boise National Forest - Ken Waugh. Ken discussed the Lowman 558 trail down Kirkham Ridge 144 for mountain bikes and ATVs. A commitment has been made to patrol this trail. He also presented a draft of brochure regarding fire lookouts. A trail signing grant application will be submitted soon. Trails are proposed for Sagehen Reservoir for ATVs and should be OK for mountain bikes. Ken needs volunteers to scout, camping out, on 8/10 and 8/11. Rex Arnett will organize the volunteer day. They will scout this year and do the environmental analysis next year. Warm Springs Trail 147 is a very good ride, a classic. Wilderness Issues: Chris discussed wilderness issues in the Owyhees and Boulder/White Cloud Mountains. He met with Roger Singer of the Sierra Club and sees no huge conflicts with mountain biking. They are looking at the south Owyhees and most biking is in the north Owyhees. Fisher Creek in the Boulder/White Clouds is cherry stemmed out, but a lot of trails are not. Chris attended meetings and met with a group from Mike Simpson's office which is working on a compromise. He also talked to motorized users and Idaho snowmobilers. He wants to be a speaker at the Idaho Environmental Forum. His goal is to get mountain biking grandfathered in on trails only. Chris isn't asking for an endorsement at this point. He wants to continue to pursue it. Harley stated that Brad Purdy was the only board member who didn't want SWIMBA to get into wilderness issues. SWIMBA needs a policy on these issues.
