NEW BUSINESS: - Change of Meeting time
- David Thomas moved to change the regularly scheduled meetings to the 3rd Thursday of the month. Dan Meeker seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The first meeting to be affected will be the March '06 meeting which shall occur on 3/16/06.
- Willow Lane Park (Ian Fitzpatrick): Ian reports that Willow Lane Jump Park needs tools, signage, locks and much work. It degraded very quickly at the end of last year. Harley informed the board that Jerry Pugh (Ridge to Rivers)(jpugh @ cityofboise.org) informed him that someone had cut the tool box in a fashion that made it impossible to lock. Consequently, all the tools have been stolen and Jerry isn't interested in providing any new tools until there is a way to secure them. Someone in the group mentioned that they knew who had cut the lock (box). It was expressed that the use of a keyed lock was extremely inconvenient because the person with the key was never available when there were volunteers available to do the work. Harley expressed that he thought he could get the box fixed and we could explore alternative solutions to locking the box that would improve access.
- Hulls Gulch: Adopt-a-trail work day for lower Hulls Gulch is proposed for the evening of Thursday April 13th. This needs to be confirmed with David Gordon before it is official.
- Free ride Park in Boise (Ian Fitzpatrick): The imminent destruction of the free ride park at Ussery St. will significantly impact the amount of developed free ride terrain in this area. There was a minimal amount of discussion regarding sites that could potentially replace Ussery including a parcel of land in Eagle near Highway 55 and the State park and also the Dog Park at Fort Boise. Ian indicated that whatever property was eventually targeted for a new Free ride park, it should be hilly and dynamic. The board discussed at length the need for a legitimate designer to be involved with the project. It was agreed that a designer experienced in Free ride park design could facilitate the permitting process with local agencies.
- Bogus Basin Free ride Park (Dave Beck): Part of the overall trail plan for the Schaefer Butte area currently includes a Free ride park that would occupy land that is privately owned by Bogus Basin and would therefore not be subject to the same level of jurisdictional scrutiny as a park built on public land. Daryl King suggested contacting the indoor Free ride park in Ohio to obtain information about their business model as well as their designers. Ian Fitzpatrick indicated that he could be contacted through the website www.spudhucksters.com.
- Wilson Peak E.A. (Chris Cook): The BLM talked to us at the last meeting. They have addressed a number of other user groups also. Chris provided a draft letter thanking the BLM for taking the time to present the E.A. It goes on to outline the items that SWIMBA believes to be important to a quality trail experience for all users. Input was solicited from the board. It was agreed that Terry Heslin should help Chris finalize the letter prior to board approval.
