OLD BUSINESS: - Schaefer Butte Lower Parking Lot Layout (David Beck):
- Phase 1 will close most trails sections that cross private property, post signage and map the system. We have submitted the grant application to REI to cover the costs associated with Phase 1.
- We are now looking ahead to Phase 2. The only way the system will be accessible will be through Bogus Basin. The trail head at the turn out parking area is on private land.
- A new parking area around the mile 9 marker will occur. We need engineering and grant money to get this moving. We need to have the engineering done now, before acquiring the grant money if we want this to get done next year. Having the engineering done will help secure the grant (RTP Grant). A survey will need to precede the engineering at a cost of $1800-2200. Engineering would cost from $5k-$7K. Dave Beck has agreed to donate the engineering.
- Harley Parson moved that we approve the survey of the parking area with a maximum expenditure of $2200. Motion seconded by Chris Cook and passed unanimously with David Beck abstaining.
- Cycle Idaho (Harley Parson):
- Cycle Idaho is experiencing numerous significant cost increases (i.e. gas, showers, forest service permitting, etc.). Harley is asking for a $300 sponsorship to cover the donation requested from the Idaho City EMTs for support of the tour. That amounts to $75 per person, per day.
- Chris Cook moved to sponsor Cycle Idaho in the amount of $300 and Jerry West seconded. The motion was amended to reflect that the check would
- Margie expressed concern about a 501c3 donating money to a "for profit" LLC.
- Chris Cook indicated that we created precedent for this when we donated money to the Knobby Tire Series.
- David Thomas raised the question on how this donation would mesh with our mission statement.
- Tom Chelstrom indicated that the Idaho City EMTs have provided ongoing support to the mountain bike community and suggested that we could make a $300 donation to them as a thank you.
- Harley Parson suggested that maybe a consultation with a CPA (with knowledge of 501c3 law) could provide information to ease the concerns of the board.
- Chris Cook withdrew his motion suggesting that more information be provided to the board prior to making a decision. He suggested that possibly the board could make a decision via email if the information was provided in a timely manner.
- Harley Parson indicated that without SWIMBA support, the tour will not function and the financial statement will indicate that.
- Sprockids (Harley Parson):
- The bid on the 14'x20' shed with a 6' porch on one side by Tuff Sheds came in at $8100 which is considerably more that the prior estimate of $7000.
Trail work calendar updater - June 3 - National trails day (Chris Cook): Meet at the Bogus Basin Lower Lodge.
- Chris was looking for someone who is willing to help with distribution of advertising.
- Tom Chelstrom indicated that an email to Sylvia at REI would get the information posted in that location.
- Leo Hennessey (State Parks & Rec) had to cancel another event for that date and has swag that was intended for that event that he would be willing to donate to the project at Bogus Basin.
- Trail work @ Lowman Ranger District (Chris Cook):
- The district requested volunteers for 8/12. The Treasure Valley Trail Machine Association (TVTMA) cleans the trees from the trails in the area but the smaller stuff needs to be addressed. Meeting in Boise @ 8:00am at the Home Depot on State Street. Bring your bikes and BOB trailers as we will be riding into the work location.
Election Process Committee (Bob Roehl): - Current nominations are the same as the last meeting.
- Only 4 statements of interest have been received to date.
- The elections will be held at the next Board Meeting (Annual members meeting) to be held on 7/15 at Smoky Mountain Pizza on Parkcenter Blvd. A social hour will begin at 6:00pm and the business meeting will begin at 7:00pm. Bob Roehl will reserve the room, Ted Tokumoto will distribute advertisements of the event and Chris Cook will line up a presentation for the social hour.
- Ted moved to allocate $400 for Pizza and soft drinks at the members meeting. The motion was seconded by Chris Cook and passed unanimously.
- David Thomas moved to approve the April 2006 Minutes, seconded by Bob Roehl, passed unanimously.
Tour de Fat - Margie - Nothing new, please post the event on the website.
NEW BUSINESS: - Misc. (Mike Burkhart):
- Cartwright Road: There are plans for a new development on Cartwright Road out by hidden springs and the developer doesn't want to put in a bike lane on Cartwright in conjunction with the development. Chris Cook will distribute the email to members that was distributed to some of us today. Margie will draft a letter to ACHD and distribute to membership for their use.
- Trail Workshop: David Gordon (Ridge to Rivers Coordinator) indicated that there will be a trail building workshop on 6/18. Sign up closes tomorrow. Call Dave Gordon if you are interested in participating.
- Willow Lane Jump Park: If we are going to have our name (SWIMBA) all over this park, can we spend some time taking care of it? Chris Cook indicated that Kyle Bickford and Ian Fitzpatrick are absent tonight due to participation in a fund raiser for Willow Lane that is occurring tonight.
