Informal report by Tom Foote indicates $50,247.72 total funds.. - Comments by Margie: The President is unavoidably delayed in Seattle. At his request, this meeting will focus on the strategic planning process, with the next meeting devoted to how committees will function.
- Strategic Planning Session: Presentation by Jill and Tom Gattiker.
- Lactic Acid: A membership benefit of reduced dues SWIMBA membership to people signing up for Lactic Acid the following weekend was discussed. The board decided on a more organized approach, didn’t want exclusivity with one riding group, and felt the $15 dues are already a steal. It was deferred to the appropriate strategic planning group.
- Eastside Grant Project: The grant we want is for the area where it joins Stack Rock to the 5,000 foot marker on Bogus Basin Road, for a 25 unit parking lot and pit toilet. It was not approved by Parks & Rec Board primarily because the Board wasn’t sufficiently aware of the project. Feedback includes suggestions for calling each board member, starting with the regular citizen’s advisory board and lobbying board members as well. Terry expressed concerns with this course of action, and suggested working through the process, especially consulting (as appropriate) with IDPR staff, and the grant advisory committee members. Contacting the board members themselves might be counterproductive and there is a time line to be aware of. The grant deadline is the last business day of January. Terry will help with the process, the cattle call will go out in a month, the grant application is due the end of January and the staff organizes it then it goes to the Board. Harley said the citizen’s advisory board told him it came in under the radar and wasn’t a priority. He said the marketing message is important.
- Nick Raganit Plaque: Tom Foote said we have $1,000 from REI, $250 from the Snake River Bass Masters and maybe some family money as well. Ridge to Rivers has approved a memorial plaque. Dave Beck said the Velodrome facility is also a possibility. Jill said Nick was a more casual cross country rider. Dave thought maybe a beginner skills line and plaque. Nick’s Barney Line was suggested, Jodi seconded and it was voted unanimously, with one abstention. Dave will find a plaque and will work with Judd Duvall. A ribbon cutting with the family is a possibility.
- Willow Lane Jump Park: Dave Beck said Judd Duvall wants to work on it. Dave wants a couple thousand dollars from SWIMBA to redo it and make it sustainable. Ian suggests re-designing as table tops, which are more sustainable. He said the expert lines are going to waste, and beginner/intermediate lines will be better. Dave will have a proposal from Judd at the next meeting.
- SWITE: Jodi Peterson proposed South West Idaho Trail Enthusiasts, SWITE, a new group she wants to affiliate with SWIMBA. The purpose is to engage runners and hikers to work with us to create more trail systems for everyone. Some trails will be designated uphill directional for mountain bikers only, with some trails designated only for bikers. Her goal is to get more members, volunteers and support for SWIMBA’s missions. She proposes kicking it off the Saturday night of the bike swap in March at The Linen District Event Center with food provided by the Local Table, with an auction and volunteer signup and live music. The end of season bash she proposes for Trailpalooza Saturday, August 9 at Bogus Basin.
Whether a new group is needed, the timing of the plan in the context of the strategies and objectives and what is in it for SWIMBA was discussed. Also discussed was that more trails would be built, it is a good way to show benevolence and common cause and encourage fitness. Dan said he and Jodi are committed to SWITE, whether or not SWIMBA is involved. The proposal was received positively overall. - Membership Brochures: Harley said he has been in contact with Ted and has some items to go to the committee.
- Meeting Adjourned at 8:33 p.m.
