IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION FUNDS OVER $6.8 MILLION FOR
RECREATION PROJECTS STATEWIDE

BOISE - The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) has approved
$6,834,840 in recreation grants to fund needed recreation projects
statewide.
The grants assist Idaho communities in upgrading and adding recreation
facilities for Idahoans and visitors to our state.

Each year, IDPR awards grants from several programs for development and
maintenance of recreational facilities in Idaho and to provide programs for
the benefit of recreationists.

The annual grants come from a variety of sources. Money from the
registration of boats, RVs, snowmobiles, motorbikes and ATVs goes into
building and maintaining facilities for their use.

Boat docks and ramps, RV campsites and dump stations, trail construction
and maintenance, snowmobile grooming sheds and parking lots are just a few
of the types of projects funded by IDPR grants.

“In most cases, the recreationists themselves decide where registration
dollars are best spent,” said Robert Meinen, IDPR Director. “Grant
requests are reviewed and ranked by statewide committee’s made up of those
who participate in each recreational activity. Then, the Idaho Park and
Recreation Board reviews the recommendations to see that they meet our
strategic plan goals.”

Government entities around the state can apply for recreation grants
through IDPR in January of each year. More information about the grant
programs can be found at www.parksandrecreation.idaho.gov.
